Duties
The role of the International Programs Committee is to facilitate short-term placement for OVC undergraduate students by maintaining and providing access to an inventory of:
- Past placements and reports on those placements, where available
- Contact names and addresses for international placements
- Possible sources of funding for international placements
- International activities of OVC departments, faculty and staff
The committee should also:
- Encourage, facilitate and provide advice on the development and maintenance of one major international activity involving one or more department(s) of OVC at any given time.
- As part of this, the committee shall serve as a locus for sharing concerns and advising on logistic constraints that such projects may face.
The committee should enhance the visibility of international activities at OVC by:
- Encouraging students to organize seminar or speaker series
- Maintaining a list of faculty, visiting scholars and others who would be willing to speak on international activities
- Facilitating the maintenance of a fourth-year elective on International Veterinary Medicine
Finally, committee members should assist in:
- Providing advice to members of the College on plans for research, education and service in foreign countries
- Maintaining lists of materials available in the McLaughlin Library relating to international veterinary work
- Advising the College on programs in tropical/international veterinary medicine
- Acting as an interface between OVC, the Centre for International Programs, and other international activities at the University of Guelph by, at a minimum, acting as a conduit for relevant information and advice.
