Canadian citizens (including those holding dual citizenship) or individuals who have Permanent Resident status in Canada of at least one year's duration, are eligible to apply as Canadian students if they satisfy the Ontario residency requirement by January 1st (the application deadline date). A ‘resident’ in this context is interpreted to mean someone who has resided in Ontario for 12 months, exclusive of time spent in post-secondary institutions.
Canadians living in BC, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba apply to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Alberta residents can also apply to the vet school at the University of Calgary. Residents of Quebec apply to the veterinary college affiliated with the Université de Montréal and those in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and the maritimes apply to the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of PEI.
Canadians living abroad need to check whether or not they still meet the residency requirement as elementary or high school years may count as proof of Ontario residency requirement.
If you have any questions about residency please contact: Deanna Lundmark, Admission Services - lundmark@registrar.uoguelph.ca or 519-824-4120 Ext. 56060.
The application process for Canadian applicants to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program depends on the school attended for undergraduate studies.
DUE JANUARY 1ST:
Current or Past University of Guelph Students: Apply to the DVM program by applying for transfer or readmission with the University of Guelph Internal Transfer/Readmission Form.
All other Canadian applicants: If you are a Canadian citizen and satisfy the Ontario residency requirement, but attend a post-secondary institution other than the University of Guelph OR are living abroad, you may apply to the DVM program using the OUAC 105D form. The OUAC 105D form is online at the Compass website and can be found under the University of Guelph undergraduate degree programs page. Do not apply through the US based VMCAS system.
Although the deadline is January 1st please keep in mind that the university is closed on this date. It is strongly recommended that you submit your application form and payment in advance of this date.
