All hip joints that are considered to be normal (a pass) are classified as normal, without further sub-grading. Dysplastic dogs (those who did not pass) are graded from OVC Grade I to OVC Grade IV, with Grade I being the least severe and Grade IV being the most severe. The report on dysplastic dogs will also comment on the presence or absence of secondary changes as a consequence of the dysplasia.
The table below provides an approximate comparison of the Ontario Veterinary College grading system with other grading systems that are used internationally. It is important to recognize that the comparison between the various grading systems is approximate and that there may be some variation with individual dogs.

Elbows are graded as normal or abnormal. If an elbow is considered to be abnormal a written description will be given indicating the nature of the abnormality identified. Typical abnormalities that are identified include an ununited anconeal process, fragmented medial coronoid process, osteochondrosis and secondary degenerative joint disease.
