The Dermatology specialty service at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) Health Sciences Centre (HSC) is being discontinued as of December 6th, 2013. The decision to terminate this service is due in part to the departure of the current dermatologist combined with the recently announced budget cuts by the University, amounting to $4.9 M for OVC.

This has been a difficult decision, and we acknowledge the impact this may have on you and your pet.  All other referral services at OVC are available and eager to serve you and your clients.  If you need assistance in locating a new veterinary dermatologist, please contact the College of Veterinarians of Ontario ( for a listing of veterinarians by locale and type of practice or the American College of Veterinary Dermatologists at (select find a dermatologist from the left hand menu and choose Canada from the country list).

To help our clients through this transition, OVC HSC is able to offer the following services:

  • Clients currently receiving allergy serums may request one refill batch from OVC Pharmacy (519-824-4120 extension 54196) within the next calendar year.
  • Other maintenance dermatology prescriptions can be refilled by the OVC Pharmacy between December 6, 2013 and March 6, 2014.
  • We will maintain medical records for our dermatology patients for a minimum of five years. If you require a copy of your petís or horses medical records, please contact our Medical Records Department at 519-824-4120, extension 54140.

The team at OVC recognizes that dermatology is an important clinical skill for students who plan to enter into general practice and we are committed to continue to provide quality learning opportunities to our students.  Students will be able to achieve the identified learning outcomes for dermatology through ongoing lectures and laboratories, as well as hands-on experiences with patients at OVCís primary care hospital during their four years of study.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments. We appreciate your ongoing support of OVC!
