At 6:00AM on March 9th, 2010 (student March 25th, 2010) CCS will perform an upgrade to the OVC CFS Network. The upgrade is a CCS service enhancement that will result in better performance and will afford greater flexibility in providing additional storage in the future.
This change will result in the OVC shared (V:\) drive and Faculty/Staff home (U:\) drives being moved from mirrors.cfs.uoguelph.ca to north.cfs.uoguelph.ca.
CCS asks that everyone log out (or shut down) the evening of Monday, March 8th. After the upgrade takes place, most people will not notice any changes.
This will affect any OVC users who manually map network data, or refer to them using VPN from off-campus. This has implications for all MacOS users and some Windows users who connect to CFS data through network drive mapping or shortcuts that refer to mirrors.cfs.uoguelph.ca. These users will need to re-map or change shortcuts to point to the new server north.cfs.uoguelph.ca.
This change will not affect users who login to the network using the standard “CFS” Windows login on campus. Your network drives will be automatically connected, as usual.
Student home directories are not affected at this time, but will be migrated later this month.
If you use My Portico’s “Briefcase” to access CFS data, an additional link will appear there, called:
New Faculty/Staff Briefcase (north.cfs.uoguelph.ca)
The above Briefcase link is to be used after the March 9th upgrade.
The sFTP service to CFS (Secure FTP to sftp.cfs.uoguelph.ca) will be unavailable between March 9th and March 26th,inclusive. During that time, for off-campus access, please use "My Portico" or VNC instead.
Please contact OVC ITS at ovcits@uoguelph.ca if you have any questions about mapping network drives at OVC.
