What is Primary Healthcare?

Primary Healthcare in veterinary medicine is an emerging concept. We have adapted our vision of Primary Healthcare from a similar concept in human medicine. Primary Healthcare promotes overall animal wellness and the ability to stay healthy, get better, live with disease, and cope with end-of-life.

Primary Healthcare in veterinary medicine is a collaborative effort and is dependent on multiple factors; preventative healthcare, education, effective communication between client and healthcare delivery team, quality nutrition and health promotion, illness treatment, and rehabilitation.

For the health of all species, including our own.

The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) is a world leader in veterinary health care, learning and research. We work at the intersection of animal, human and ecosystem health: training future veterinarians and scientists, improving the health of our animal companions, ensuring the safety of the food we eat and protecting the environment that we all share. It's been that way since 1862.
