The veterinary profession is constantly evolving with a growing demand for veterinary medical knowledge outside of the clinic. Not only are veterinarians prepared for careers in small and large animal medicine, but also in exciting fields such as government service, teaching, research and industry.
The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Guelph is recognized and respected by veterinarians thorughout the world. By having faculty and collaborations that extend outside the University of Guelph, the college remains at the forefront of veterinary medicine.
OVC's program, alumni mentoring, and numerous student clubs and extracurricular opportunities expose students to a rich variety of career paths and gives them the appropriate direction and support to help them achieve their career goals.
The OVC is one of the founding colleges of the University of Guelph, a university consistently ranked the top comprehensive university in Ontario and placed among the top three in Canada by Maclean's Magazine. One of five veterinary colleges in Canada, the Ontario Veterinary College is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA-COE) and holds the status of Full Accreditation. In the final year of the DVM program students write the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination. OVC grads can be licensed most countries, giving them a spectrum of opportunities after they receive their degree. Veterinarians must also write a state/provincial licensing exam to be eligible to work in that state/province. The licensing of veterinarians in Ontario is managed by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
A national survey of university graduates rated the University of Guelph number one in all but one category, putting it at the top of the list of universities graduates would endorse.
